Experimental laboratory
dedicated to the study of
highly altered rivers.

Our aim is to develop innovative strategies and techniques to improve the rivers of tomorrow.

RIVERS & THE FUTURE

Urban River Lab was founded in response to the need to understand the countless effects of human activity on our rivers

In our current context of global change, human activity is one of the main causes of the ecological degradation of our rivers.

We have a multidisciplinary team of professionals from the fields of environmental management and restoration, waste water treatment and scientific research, which allows us to tackle the issue from various angles.

We have 15 channels with continuous water flow and 12 flood basins designed for experimental purposes with the aim of studying how to improve the quality of the water flowing along our highly humanised rivers.

Our goal is to develop new tools and strategies to improve the quality and management of highly altered rivers. Our research seeks to generate new knowledge for a better understanding of the functioning of rivers in today’s changing environment.

The URL is open to any universities, public or private institutions, and companies that want to harness the human potential and the infrastructure it offers. It is the only outdoor laboratory of its kind in Europe.
